This boardwalk trail in Louisiana makes for an easy hike. Ready to hit the trails? One of the most unexpectedly scenic hikes is found in the southwestern part of the state, often overlooked by many nature lovers. This little area in Cameron Parish is a honeyhole for wildlife viewing, fishing, and all sorts of outdoor adventures. And this particular scenic hike in Louisiana is a short and sweet trail that will take you through one of the most underrated National Wildlife Refuges in Louisiana. Let's check out the Wetland Walkway at Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.
The Sabine National Wildlife Refuge is a massive, 124,511-acre refuge in Cameron Parish.
It’s actually the largest coastal marsh refuge along the Gulf Coast, offering the most beautiful scenery.
It’s a popular spot for fishing and crabbing with locals, and with views like this, we could easily see spending a few hours on the dock with a line in the water.
Located near the visitor center, the Wetland Walkway gives visitors a chance to traverse over the marshy terrain and maybe even spot some wildlife.
The Wetland Walkway is a 1.5-mile Louisiana hiking trail that is easy enough for the entire family to enjoy.
There is no shade, though, so be sure to wear sunscreen and a hat.
More than 200 species of birds, muskrats, river otters, rabbits, turtles, and snakes call the refuge home.
How magical to spot a Great Horned Owl.
Depending on the time of year you visit, you may see any one of these animals out and about.
Just remember not to feed any of the wildlife, especially the alligators.
The trail is both concrete and boardwalk, so you'll be walking alongside the wetlands and on top of them.
There's even a little gazebo over the water where we can sit for a spell and take in the view.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along one of the best hikes in Louisiana.
