With the weather cooling down, it's a perfect time to get outdoors and explore some new trails. You don't have to travel far to get to beautiful bayou views and cypress-tupelo forests, you just need to know where to look! Here are some of our favorite, lesser known trails near New Orleans.
1. Bayou Sauvage Ridge Trail
This boardwalk trail is less than a mile and offers unparalleled views of Bayou Sauvage. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, as the area is home to many swamp creatures, birds, and aquatic life. Find it at 20876 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA 70129.
2. Lafreniere Park Loop
This two mile trail loops around the lake and offers beautiful water views and you’ll see a ton of birds. Located at 3000 Downs Road, Metairie, LA 70003.
3. Woodlands Trail and Park
There are 13 miles of trails that will take you through bottomland hardwood, coastal forest that’s full of wildlife, especially migratory birds. The Naval Ammunition Depot Trail is a 2.5 mile trail that leads to several WWII Ammunition Magazines that are nestled within the forest and are fascinating to see. Located at 449 F. 4. Crescent Park Promenade
This 2 mile trail located near the French Quarter features amazing views of the river. This is a lovely spot for a morning stroll or an evening walk when you just need the breeze in your face and good view. Located at Piety St. at Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
5. Bonnet Carre Spillway Trail
This is a great trail for hikers and bikers alike. Beautiful views, and never too crowded make this a great hidden gem that will quickly become your new favorite place to escape to. Find it at Lower Guide Levee Rd, Norco, LA 70079.
