As many people are trying to enjoy the Kansas outdoors, sometimes your local parks get crowded. When you want to take your furry friends along with you on the trip to the great Kansas outdoors, these pet-friendly trails are something you should check out. Hiking buddies!
Always remember to keep your dogs on leash when visiting outdoor trails and parks. Not only for your dog's safety, but for the safety of others and their buddies on these pet-friendly trails.
1. Agave Ridge Loop - Cedar Bluff State Park - Ellis
This short little trail is beautiful, and perfect for a quick trip outside to hang out with your four legged friends. Its recommended to be used from April until September, most likely due to ice and that muddy slush we would rather avoid. It's good for all skill levels, and loops back around to where you started for convenience.
2. Meade State Wildlife Nature Trail - Plains
As a 1.3 mile loop out in this grassy area, it's perfect for exploring with friends, furry or otherwise. It's not too fancy or maintained, but some of us don't mind the extra precautions.
3. Santa Fe Lake North Trail - Augusta
Next on our list is a 4.4 mile loop out at Santa Fe Lake, where a waterfall is the main event. There's a small parking fee, but the day full of fun you can have here is well worth it.
4. Azura Trail - Skyline Park - Topeka
Another great little loop is Azura, a spot in Skyline Park that will last about 3.6 miles. Not only can you take your dogs on leash, but you can also mountain bike if your furry friends happen to be the running type.
5. Rock Town Trail - Wilson State Park - Lucas
It's no secret that Wilson State Park is a fantastic area to visit, but it is also a great area to take your dog for a day outdoors. Rock Town Trail runs about 2.5 miles and has some of the best scenery in the state, if you ask me.
6. Table Mound Trail - Elk City State Park
If you and your hiking buddy have more stamina, this 5.6 mile rocky trail is rated as moderate and is longer than most on this list. There is a lot to climb on and under, and is great for working out pent up energy.
7. Mahaffie Creek Trail - Mahaffie Park - Olathe
4.2 miles of hiking or trail running is your best bet for exploring this area, but you can go at your own speed. Luckily, most of the trail is shaded during the day so you can stay out of the sun.
8. Southwind Nature Trail - Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve - Strong City
Almost 3 miles of nature trail out in the beautiful prairie is perfect for a day outside, especially if you and your hiking buddies like listening to the wind rushing through the grasses. This preserve is protecting native tallgrass prairie as well as history!
9. Tomahawk Creek Trail - Leawood
The longest of this list is the 18.2 mile Tomahawk Creek trail. It's a great out-and-back adventure that works for all sorts of explorers. Hikers, cyclists, runners, and those who take their time.
