They say there's a time and a place for everything, and they might just be right (whoever they are). For example, a great place for a challenging (but incredibly rewarding) hike is, really, any of the trails at Turkey Run State Park - but Trail 2 sticks out as a particularly awe-inspiring one. The time for a hike at Turkey Run? Always. Check this awesome, rugged hiking trail in Indiana out and see exactly why:
Turkey Run State Park is home to 14 miles of awe-inspiring trails.
Each trail is truly amazing in and of itself; we strongly recommend taking the time to explore each of them, though some of them are more rugged and difficult than others.
Trail 2, for example, is an amazing example of the incredible beauty this park has to offer its visitors.
It's accessible year-round, from dawn until dusk, though the park does ask hikers to be off the trail entirely by dusk. Trail 2 is a one to three-mile (depending on if you connect with other trails) hike through some of Indiana's most fascinating landscapes.
You'll happen upon all sorts of amazing sights and natural spectacles, from a gorgeous old covered bridge to the beautiful Sugar Creek and everything in between.
Trail 2 will lead you under the edges of cliffs, as well as Gypsy Gulch and Box Canyon. It eventually intersects with Trail 1, near the Lusk Earth Fill.
You'll encounter lush, green forest during the warmer months...
...and brilliant, snowy landscapes during the coldest months.
Potential hikers should be aware of the moderate-to-difficult nature of the trail; you can expect to climb and/or descend steps, and there is also a suspension bridge one must cross to access most of the trails in all of Turkey Run State Park. Parts of the trail are very rocky, and some climbing over/past large boulders is necessary.
The trail - and the park - is remarkably photogenic no matter what time of year you visit.
Of course, we recommend visiting during every season; each one brings with it something special, and each season has a certain magic to it that must be seen and experienced at least once.
Should Trail 2 not be adventure enough all on its own, it intersects with several others in the park, so you can mix up your adventure each time you visit.
Trail 3 is another beloved hike at Turkey Run; there's also the Five-Mile Challenge, which begins at the Nature Center - we suggest giving that a try, too!
