Hiking's often the perfect way to connect with nature and to spend time outside in the fresh air. Even if you're not an avid hiker or you're just a beginner, you'll find a ton of easy trails to explore. For an easy trail that's drenched with natural beauty, including a waterfall, follow the Waterfall Glen Trail in Illinois.
The Waterfall Glen Trail, tucked in Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Lemont, promises the picture-perfect way to spend a morning or an afternoon, whether you're up for a solo hike or a family hike.
Considered an easy trail, the Waterfall Glen loop clocks in at just over nine miles and is popular with both hikers and bikers.
Bring your camera along, because the trail is dotted with picturesque beauty, including a wooden footbridge, colorful wildflowers, and wildlife.
If you prefer hiking when it's quiet, your best bet is to go during the week. Both weekends and warm days usually mean a crowded trail.
Bring along a picnic, too, if you're in the mood for a relaxing meal at a covered picnic table along the trail.
One of the highlights of the trail is, undoubtedly, the waterfall. On hot summer days, you may want to dip your feet in the waterfall's pool.
If you're bringing the kiddos along, the whole family will learn a bit during the hike, too. Educational markers are found throughout the trail.
You never know who you'll run across on the trail either. You might, for example, come face-to-face with a meandering deer.
The trail also features colorful wildflowers during the warmer months.
