Idaho is home to a handful of wonderful zoos that all animal lovers should check out, but Zoo Boise may just be king of them all. The capital city's zoo is home to a wide assortment of animals, and they're adding even more with the opening of a brand new exhibit this summer. Come July, you'll be able to visit the zoo and set your eyes on some rare animals that you most likely haven't seen in person before! This is an exciting opportunity for visitors to learn about a specific region of the world and the animals that can be found there, so be sure to make an effort to see this unique exhibit this summer.
For over 100 years, Zoo Boise has been a place for visitors to come and lose themselves in a landscape of exotic animals and diverse exhibits. It's one of the largest attractions in the state, and this summer it's getting even larger.
Around eight years ago, Zoo Boise made it their mission to protect animals not just in their zoo, but in the wild as well. The zoo has become more focused on raising both awareness and money for conservation projects around the world.
Zoo Boise's newest project is called "Zoo with a New View Capital Campaign". This project includes the construction of a 2.5-acre Gorongosa National Park exhibit.
Gorongosa was once considered one of the greatest parks in Africa. However, it was destroyed over the years of war that raged in Mozambique. With the new exhibit, Zoo Boise has become part of an effort to rebuild the park and will generate $2 million towards increasing its animal populations.
Additionally, the new exhibit will feature many of the animals that can be seen within Gorongosa National Park. Animals like African dogs, baboons, Nile crocodiles, vervet monkeys, otters, and hyenas will all call Zoo Boise their new home.
As visitors peruse the new exhibit, they will see Mozambique's conservation project unfold in front of their eyes. The exhibit will focus on the agricultural, medical, and educational programs that are currently in place with the people of Mozambique and Gorongosa National Park.
We couldn't be more excited for the reveal of this new and exciting exhibit. Not only does it mean seeing new animals we haven't seen before, but it means contributing to a greater cause as well. Learn more about the new Gorongosa exhibit at the zoo's website here.
