If you're looking for a little escape from the stress of everyday life, get outside and take a walk. But not just any walk... You need a trail that feels like an escape. The Laurel Marsh Trail is a scenic riverside path that will make you feel like you've entered a storybook setting.
Located in Manchester, the Laurel Marsh Trail meanders alongside the banks of Hockanum River for 3.5 scenic miles.
The trail hugs the river as closely as possible affording opportunities to check out the local wildlife on the water. There is a small boat launch at the beginning of the trail for those looking to paddle the river.
The mixed forest creates a lovely palate of lush greenery that comes alive with blossoming trees in the spring and summer. The Laurel Marsh itself is expansive with native flowering plants.
The trail is easy to navigate, the first 3/4 mile loop section is crushed stone that is handicap accessible. The remainder of the trail is composed of dirt paths, short boardwalks, and footbridge crossings.
Sit and relax on one of the ten benches scattered along the trail. These resting spots are the perfect place to take a break and soak in the riverside views.
The next time you need to escape to another world for a few minutes or a few hours, this magical riverside trail is just what you need.
The parking lot and trailhead can be found on the south side of Routes 6 and 44 in Manchester, just 200 feet east of the Exit-60 ramp off Interstate-84. It is across from the Cheney Technical High School. The entrance sign is marked "Laurel Marsh Trail." Learn more by visiting the Hockanum River Linear Park Committee website.
