Do you love the idea of hiking, but aren't ready for the challenge of climbing a mountain for hours? Sometimes it's difficult to find a family-friendly trail in Colorado without sacrificing beauty. Thankfully, this hike is all scenery, all of the time. Grab those shoes and your travel planner! This hike is bound to keep you and any younger hikers entertained but not exhausted.
Today's adventure takes you to the Alluvial Fan West Trail, up at Rocky Mountain National Park. Though there are other trails in the area, not every kid can handle a long hike, so it's always a good idea to start small.
The trail only runs a short 0.3-mile stretch, with optional extra areas to explore if you have more energy to spend. It's an estimated 10-minute hike, but that doesn't include all the time you'll spend looking at rocks, scenery, and the water.
In addition to the landscape, you can also spend time wildlife spotting on your visit. During less populated hours, you might spot native wildlife among the scenery if you keep your eyes peeled. It's like a game of I Spy!
The most exciting and fun feature is definitely the river. This babbling brook is part of the larger Roaring River, and it slows down just enough to tumble over the rocks here at the trail.
Kids of all ages love a good bridge, and the paved path makes sure no one can get lost among the rocks. The fan is such an interesting area, but photos can only do so much to encompass the whole beauty here.
No matter what time of day you choose to hike this little trail or whether you add on the other sections, it's easy to have a blast. Make sure you never leave anything behind but footsteps, and never take anything back home with you besides memories. Happy trails make happy hikers.
Even if you don't need a trail that's easy for kids to handle, easy trails can be on anyone's list. If you want more hikes to add to your hiking bucket list, make sure you see this selection of the best hiking trails Colorado has to offer.
