There's more to life than meets the eye. Sometimes, there's a force around us that we can't see, but we can feel... it's magic. Children know where to look for magic. They find magic in their games, they see faces in tree bark and fairies dancing around raindrops. What if I told you that art exhibits at the Holden Arboretum bring this kind of magic to life? It's true! Infusing a natural landscape with unobtrusive man-made elements adds a dash of whimsy that visitors of all ages can appreciate. Embrace your inner child and take a visit to one of the largest botanical gardens near Cleveland:
If you have never visited the Holden Arboretum, then you absolutely must budget time for a visit.
This gorgeous garden is open year-round, though certain attractions are closed during the colder months.
Each season infuses this landscape with a different sort of beauty. Hiking, however, is universally fun, whether it's a cold day or hot and sunny out. Whether you are a visitor or a member, you'll want to book your reservation before you swing by to visit.
During your visit, you just might want to keep your eyes peeled... you truly never know what you'll encounter.
In addition to boasting an art gallery in its Visitor Center, you'll also find art in the great outdoors. While the outdoor exhibits are frequently revolving to showcase the artistic prowess of different creators, they all seem to coexist with nature once created. Features like fairy doors and faces carved into trees will catch you by surprise simply because they blend beautifully into the landscape.
Stickwork, an art exhibit dreamed up by artist Patrick Dougherty, will remain at the Holden Arboretum until it naturally deteriorates and returns to the earth.
Stickwork has visited more than 300 locations around the world in the past. The sculptor hails from North Carolina, but his work feels perfectly at home in Northeast Ohio.
If you visit during the winter, you can even rent snowshoes to make your trek to see the art easy-peasy.
Snowshoes and skis are available to rent in the Visitor Center, as long as there's more than six inches of snow on the ground. You'll love this unique way to tour the lovely landscape!
Stickwork is a breathtaking exhibit to see in person, and it's every bit as wonderful as previous art exhibits shown at the arboretum.
This larger-than-life creation made with twigs has truly humbled visitors since it was unveiled. Like previous exhibits, it feels as earthy as it does man-made... almost creating a metaphor for the beauty of the surrounding botanical garden.
All sorts of unique works of art have been featured in the gardens. What's next? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, you'll want to swing by this fantastic natural space a few times a year... you might as well keep your eyes peeled for new art!
The Holden Arboretum is nothing short of a magical wonderland.
You'll find it at 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland. Connect with them on Facebook and stay tuned for updates on future art exhibits!
