When fall begins to settle in the Nature State, we can soon expect an explosion of colorful foliage. Some trees have already teased a preview of what's to come, but the full peak of color of Arkansas in the fall won't be until the first part of November. This colorful background gives a whole new reason to visit the more forested waterfalls around the state. The fall foliage in Six Finger Falls in Arkansas, in particular, makes it an awesome place to visit in autumn. Let's take a peek at what astounding colors await.
Every waterfall in Arkansas is stunning (and even more so during fall) but one of our favorites for the season is Six Finger Falls.
The waterfall isn't particularly tall at only 6 feet. However, the 100-ft. wide creek has multiple cascades that create a beautiful landscape. Pair these with the surrounding trees and you have one picture-perfect waterfall to visit.
The whole family will be able to navigate the trail to Six Finger.
No bushwhacking or backpacking is needed for today's fall. The out-and-back trail is under 200 yards away from the parking area. The trail is well-worn and quite family-friendly. Check out this map of the trek.
The waterfall is photogenic year-round but there are a few things to consider when visiting this season.
First, as with any waterfall in Arkansas, they're best the day after a good rain. And second, our peak fall color is expected to be around the first half of November. The colors are supposed to be bold because of our mild and wet summer. Take these factors into consideration and get your camera ready!
You won't be spending long hiking to this area but you're sure to lose time while taking in all the beauty.
This whole area is downright mesmerizing with the changing colors. Six Finger Falls (and all of Richland Wilderness) is a perfect showcase of Arkansas' natural beauty.
Six Finger Falls isn't the only waterfall in the area either.
If you're up for more hiking you can venture to Fuzzybutt Falls, Horsetail Falls, or Intersection Falls. Falling Water Falls (pictured) is also a short drive away. You could easily turn this waterfall excursion into a full fall getaway!
Whether you just visit Six Finger or explore a few more falls along the way, this area will an explosion of color in a few short weeks.
