It’s common knowledge that Arizona is a hiker’s paradise. The state has hundreds of trails that vary from a well-paved, mere half-mile strolls to treacherous journeys that are challenging for even the most ardent hiker. Plus, the beautiful landscape lining trails is top notch and, no matter the day of the year, you can always find a trail that will allow you a chance to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air.
Since fall seems to be somewhat of a sweet spot when it comes to weather, we’re going to check out one Arizona lake that is actually quite nice to visit during the season. Let’s take a look!
The Mogollon Rim is home to some beautiful Arizona forest with miles and miles of pines, aspens, and other trees that create a shaded, lush environment.
Blue Ridge Reservoir, also known as C. C. Cragin Reservoir, is one of the Rim’s popular spots in summer but you’ll find the fall crowds are a bit quieter due to the cooler temperatures.
The reservoir is lovely throughout the year but in fall it really seems to sing with the warm tones of changing leaves that contrast against the pines and sky.
The odd shape and bend in the reservoir makes it feel more like a river than a lake but that doesn’t take away from the scenic views here. It’s a popular location for boating, hiking, and fishing, plus a campground sits not too far away.
You’ll find several short trails surrounding the lake and Rock Crossing Trail #18 is one of them. Separated into three sections, it connects several Rim trails to the reservoir and campsites, as well as the forest roads.
Details about the trail can be found at this link.
