Alaska has one of the best hiking scenes in the nation. You’ll find amazing trails that you can complete all year long. The Tonsina Creek Trail in Alaska takes you away to a secluded beach with beautiful views of Resurrection Bay right outside of Seward, Alaska. This easy trek belongs at the top of your to-do list!
Right outside of Seward, Alaska is a gorgeous hike that takes you to a secluded beach.
The parking area is close to Lowell Point Beach, and there is a $5.00 parking fee. There are outhouses available if you need to use the restrooms before you start your hike.
The parking lot is right next to Lowell Beach. I love to take the family out to the beach at the end of the hike, and get a look at the gorgeous views.
There are some switchbacks along the trail, but otherwise, this trail is gradual and relatively easy.
The entire trail is 4.1 miles long. You’ll only complete 770 feet of elevation gain, and it’s almost entirely on the way back during long one stretch. Otherwise, this is a pretty easy hike!
The trail will lead you right to the Tonsina River before you reach the beach.
You’ll be in awe of the views opening up before you. You’ll be able to see Resurrection Bay and the mountains rising up behind it.
You’ll cross a bridge that spans the Tonsina River.
Once you cross, the trail continues on until you reach the secluded beach. There’s camping in the forest behind the beach if you’d like to spend the night.
The beach is amazing and offers you seclusion and island views.
Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife. You’ll most likely see whales, porpoises, and a bald eagle or two.
The trail is well-maintained and easy to follow. I found hiking the Tonsina Creek Trail to be great to do if you have children in the family.
This trail is fun to hike regardless of the weather.
Bring sturdy boots, plenty of water, and a rain jacket in case the weather changes. If you’re going to continue on to Caines Head, be sure you time the tides right so you don’t get stranded as you cross the beach at low tide.
This is one beautiful hike that’s fun to complete any time of the year. I love this hike; it’s one of the best hikes in Alaska.
The next time you’re visiting Seward, you need to get out and explore this trail. Bring your friends and family and enjoy some of the best that Alaska has to offer!
