The One Town In Montana That Turns Into A Winter Wonderland Each Year
Bigfork is a beautiful place to visit in any season. This scenic town of about 4,500 people is located in Flathead County, and during the summertime it’s a sunny paradise. But winter is when this gorgeous area really comes alive. In fact, Bigfork is known as Montana’s Christmas village.
Bigfork’s average annual snowfall is well above the national average.
You can pretty much count on having a white Christmas here.
The downtown holiday decorating is a tradition that started over 30 years ago.
It’s done with military precision by 200 local volunteers. The results speak for themselves.
Base Camp Bigfork offers an array of winter activities that will make you fall in love with the season.
You can go cross country skiing, snowshoeing, skijoring and even dog sledding.
The town looks like something out of a storybook.
Bigfork has caught the attention of a lot of travel publications and has been named one of the 50 Great Towns of the West.
You’ll have your choice of holiday activities leading up to Christmas.
You can meet Santa, participate in a parade, enjoy the Festival of Trees or sip your way through the Holiday Wine Stroll at the Marina Cay Resort on December 7.
Of course, you can always sit inside the Echo Lake Cafe and sip hot chocolate while the snow falls.
And even in the middle of winter, the sunsets from Wayfarers State Park are incredible.
If you’ve never been to Bigfork in the winter, perhaps this should be the year you go. If you can’t, check out one of Montana’s other beautiful Christmas towns.
