Whitefish, Montana Is The Grandest Winter Wonderland You’ll Ever Visit
Summers are so crowded in Whitefish, you’ll swear you’re in a much bigger city when you visit. From sunbathers at Whitefish City Beach to families making their way to Glacier National Park, the little town stays perpetually packed. However, if you get the chance to check it out in the winter, you really should. Not only does it have a more mellow (and smaller) crowd of locals and snow sports enthusiasts, but the snowy mountain setting looks absolutely amazing, making Whitefish one of the best small towns in the U.S.
In any season, Whitefish is one of the most enchanting places in Montana.
Located on the shores of Whitefish Lake and at the base of Big Mountain near Glacier National Park, you really couldn't ask for a more picturesque setting.
But as beautiful as the summers are here, tried-and-true Montanans tend to appreciate it most in the winter.
You'll find fine dining, casual eateries, quirky shops, boutiques, coffee shops, and bars here. And since the city is a year-round tourist destination, most businesses stay open all winter.
If you go, bundle up and take a self-guided tour of the downtown area.
Treat yourself to a hearty breakfast at Buffalo Cafe, shop for new jewelry, an outfit, or holiday gifts for your family, check out an art gallery or two, and warm up with an afternoon cocktail at Spotted Bear Spirits, a community-minded craft distillery. In the winter, you can't go wrong with a Snowghost.
That said, you should also escape the little city for a while and explore the surrounding area, which is stunning when it's all dusted with snow.
Whether you're a seasoned skier or a total novice, you won't regret spending a day or two at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Nothing compares to skiing or snowboarding down these beautiful slopes.
Whitefish Mountain tends to see snow early in the season and it often remains until spring.
This town is a true winter wonderland, and if you've never seen it this way, you're missing out.
Check out Whitefish in the wintertime. Not only will you have a blast, but you’ll also be less than an hour away from Bigfork, Montana’s Christmas Village.
