14 Things That Come To Everyone’s Mind When They Think Of Montana
Maine has lobster, Washington has apples, and Hawaii has warm, sandy beaches (must be rough). And just like the other states, there are certain things that come to mind when people think of Montana. We don’t have just one signature “thing”—we have dozens.
When Montana comes up in conversations, these are a few of the things that come to mind:
1. Wide, open spaces.
You might meet a few people in your lifetime who don't love Montana, but even they will admit that it's beautiful.
There is camping, and then there is camping in Montana. The night skies will take your breath away.
Some states have wildlife in their forests. We have it everywhere.
4. Yellowstone National Park.
Yes, we also have Glacier National Park, and we share Yellowstone with Wyoming (and that tiny bit in Idaho). But if you ask people from other states about Montana, they almost always mention Yellowstone. And we're happy to claim it.
5. Fishing and hunting.
Our state is full of people who love the great outdoors and catching their own food.
The Treasure State has always been known for its equestrians, but when The Horse Whisperer was filmed here it really sealed the deal.
Yellowstone, Madison, Missouri, Clark Fork, Bitterroot...
Miles City is known as the Cowboy Capitol...
9. Small towns.
The popular expression is "Montana is just a small town with very long streets."
The Dinosaur Trail is pretty amazing.
11. Beautiful mountains.
Montana does mean "mountain" in Spanish.
12. Snow and cold weather.
There's no denying that the weather here can be very harsh.
13. Hot springs.
Everyone knows Montana has some of the best places to soak.
It's our number one crop.
