Virginia City is amazing for approximately 500 reasons. However, it’s not normally a place one would travel for German food. But Montana’s liveliest ghost town is exactly where you’ll find The Road Agents’ Roost, a family-owned eatery that happens to serve German dishes alongside its burgers and fries. And while the restaurant is fairly new, the building’s history goes back much, much farther.

The Road Agents' Roost is located in the heart of historic Virginia City in the old Herndon & Donaldson Furniture Store.

The furniture store was built in 1863, the same year the township was formed. The building also served as several saloons over the years, and in 1918, it was the home of the local Women's Club Library.
Don't let this charming site fool you. During Prohibition, this space was used as a bootlegger parlor.

Of course, there's nothing illegal about the drinks you can enjoy here now.

And while the space has been modernized quite a bit, you'll still find historic touches and pieces of its past everywhere.
