What are the most scenic hikes in Montana?

Unsurprisingly, many of the most scenic hikes in Montana are within Glacier National Park, but you’ll also find beautiful scenery (and often fewer crowds) by venturing into other natural areas, like Kootenai National Forest, Flathead National Forest, or the American Prairie Reserve, where you can see bison and bighorn sheep roam the mixed grass prairie. The Danny On Trail is a particularly scenic hike in Whitefish, Montana, outside of Glacier, where you can take a scenic lift ride up or down the trail (or both).

What are the most beautiful lakes in Montana?

Montana has over 3,000 named lakes, 131 of which are within the borders of Glacier National Park. Lake McDonald is the largest lake in the park, and its rainbow pebbles at the shore make it perhaps the most colorful as well. Other lakes worth seeing include St. Mary Lake, Swiftcurrent Lake, and Avalanche Lake. Grinnell Lake, also in Glacier National Park, has the bluest water of any of the Montana lakes, its turquoise water creating an almost surreal, Caribbean-like look – of course, without the Caribbean temperatures. Outside of Glacier, visit Flathead Lake, which has the clearest water in Montana.

Where can you go swimming in Montana?

Lakes, rivers, springs, and old-fashioned swimming holes – there are lots of places to go swimming in Montana. For example, Gigantic Warm Springs in the Lewistown area boasts 68 degree water and beautiful views of central Montana. Yaak River Falls is a less frequently visited swimming spot about 50 miles from the Canadian border, with clear, cold waters perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day. For warmer temperatures, visit Ennis Lake. And Hauser Lake is a highly popular swimming spot in Helena with a rope swing and rocks to jump off of.
