The building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Upstairs, furnished rooms were rented out to short and long-term tenants by Lawrence and Katherine Graves, the proprietors.

One of those historic touches is the lack of an elevator. Prepare to take the stairs to your room.

They're also all distinctly named with titles like The Kelley Suite and The Vault Room.

The old photographs and memorabilia showcase the city's mining past, and some of the original details were left intact.

Perhaps that knowledge was the inspiration for the hotel's onsite speakeasy, 51 Below, which is open Wednesday through Saturday.

The next time you need a change of scenery, give Butte -- and this hotel -- a try.
