8 Foods Every Montanan Craves When They Leave Montana
Sometimes, for one reason or another, life might take you out of Montana for a while. And as if that isn’t tragic enough, you’ll have to miss all of your favorite foods you grew up eating while you’re gone. The Treasure State isn’t the only place you’ll find some of these foods, but somehow, they all taste better at home.
1. Wilcoxson's Ice Cream
This Montana-made ice cream has been a local favorite for more than 100 years. Nothing else quite compares.
2. Flathead Cherries
We're not sure why the best cherries in the universe come from the Flathead, but spend a summer away from Montana and you'll miss them terribly.
3. MacKenzie River Pizza
You can find this scrumptious pizza in several other states now... but it was "born" here, and somehow it tastes better at home.
4. Huckleberry Bear Claws from the Polebridge Mercantile
It's bad enough when you crave one of these when you're in Montana and can't go all the way to Polebridge for one... but try craving them when you're living several states away.
5. Cinnamon Rolls from Wheat Montana
No other subpar cinnamon roll will ever compare (sorry).
6. Iconic Burgers
The Burger Dive in Billings. The Ugly Burger from Rod's Drive Inn in Havre. Mark's In and Out in Livingston. You get the idea.
7. Steak from Sir Scott's Oasis....
... or the Grizzly Bar, or the Land of Magic... we all have our favorite steakhouse, and we miss them terribly when we leave.
8. Pickle Barrel Sandwiches
We admit we're not entirely certain why these are so addicting. But they are, and we're perfectly fine with that.
These are some of Montana’s most iconic foods — but when people leave, they tend to miss meals from their
favorite neighborhood restaurants the most.
