10 Ways Montana Has Quietly Become The Coolest State In America
Those of us lucky enough to call Montana home know just how cool it actually is. And while some of the rest of the country has yet to hear that news, we’re perfectly OK with that.
The Treasure State has spent the last few decades becoming better than it has ever been. Here’s why we’re the coolest:
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

While this hasn't been proven, there's a claim that Montana sapphires are featured in the Crown Jewels of England. And while it seems that this is true, even if it isn't, our sapphires and other gems are truly spectacular.

We've watched our beer industry grow and thrive in recent years. And while Montana doesn't always have the most breweries per capita (it seems we're constantly competing with Vermont and Oregon for that title), we do have some excellent craft brew.

One thing our state does have the most of per capita: Bookstores. We also have hundreds of libraries, and Missoula hosts an annual Montana Book Festival. Most Montanans are quite well-read.

Huckleberry treats, anyone?

Almost everyone who visits Montana knows about Sir Scott's Oasis, for one.

Locals tend to think this Great Falls bar is overrated, but it has been mentioned in dozens of national publications. "Splash" actress Daryl Hannah even put on a mermaid tail and went for a swim here.

At The Coffee Pot Bakery & Cafe in Four Corners, for example, you can sip your latte out of handmade pottery and nibble on freshly baked pastries.

This is Yesterday's Calf-A in the tiny community of Dell, which is an old one-room schoolhouse converted to a restaurant with incredible pie.

This is a scene from the Havre Beneath the Streets tour, where you can check out the underground city that tells part of its story.

Just look at it.
The truth is, we don’t need everyone else to know how cool Montana is. We already know that it’s the best state in the country.
