We’re gearing up for another beautiful summer here in the Treasure State, so we thought we’d recommend one of our favorite spots on the planet. The Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is one of our finest gems, and there’s no better place to go to get away from it all for a while.

The Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area offers some of the most stunning views in the west.

It straddles the border between Montana and Wyoming, and the scenery is magnificent.
This area was established by an act of Congress in 1966, not long after the construction of the Yellowtail Dam.

The dam, which was named after the famous Crow chairman Robert Yellowtail, turned the waters of the Bighorn River into a magnificent lake.
Bighorn Lake spans about 60 miles through Wyoming and Montana, 55 miles of which are held within the Bighorn Canyon.

And considering the recreation area is composed of over 70,000 acres, it's safe to say it's easy to get away from it all here.
