You Can Stand In Three Different States At Once In The Town Of Joplin, Missouri

We’re never too far from unique destinations in Missouri – from the World’s Largest Goose to castle ruins at Ha Ha Tonka State Park. However, you won’t find another like the Tri-State Marker that allows you to stand in three states at once. It’s a quick adventure and a unique experience. Maybe it will even earn a spot on your bucket list?

Stand in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas all at once when you visit the Three State Corner, a free roadside landmark near Joplin.

A visit to the marker doesn't take long, but the actual work to identify the spot where the three states converge took a massive effort.

A group of 800 individuals - ranging from soldiers to surveyors - set off on an expedition in 1857 to find the tri-state point.

Over a six month period, the group traveled 40 miles on foot, facing a variety of difficulties along the way. The group had to contend with rocky and rough terrain as well as high water.

The spot, where the states meet, was eventually marked by a stone structure, built by the National Youth Administration in 1938.

You'll also see a plaque that tells the stories of the tri-state marker.

The 3 State Marker is conveniently located at the end of a dead end road. You'll also find free parking nearby.
