First, let’s discuss what we mean by “smart.” Intelligence and being educated are both qualities that people associate with being smart, but for our purposes at this particular time, we are looking more at “most educated.” We went to FindTheHome.com and compared all of Missouri’s cities with over 10,000 residents. We ranked them from 1-10 based on the percentage of the population who had obtained at least a Bachelor’s degree in college. Then, we turned to the five biggest cities in the state and ranked them the same. Check out who’s the smartest:
79.6% of Clayton’s residents have at least a bachelor’s degree.
A couple of things of note are that 9 out of 10 of the cities in the top ten are St. Louis suburbs, and this does not include villages, towns or cities under 10,000 residents.
Missouri has only five cities with a population of over 100,000. Columbia is one of them, and it was ranked #8 in the above list. That means it’s the best ranked for the five largest cities. Let’s see how they all compared:
Independence has the lowest percentage of our five largest cities with just 17.5% of its residents having at least a Bachelor’s degree.
