Haunted tales have never been for the faint of heart, and this particular tale just might get you a bit rattled. Unlike many of the spots rife with paranormal activity throughout the state, this haunted tunnel in Missouri sits on private property, making it impossible to visit. That, however, doesn’t mean you can’t still get chills when you learn about its story.

Just outside the town of Hawk Point, with under 700 residents, sits Satan’s Tunnel, a tunnel above which an old railroad line used to run.

If you live in or near this small Missouri town, you may have heard of some of the many tales that revolve around that unassuming tunnel.
One such story tells of a fella, just over a century ago, who went to explore the tunnel.

He’d heard, as had others, horrific sounds emanating from the area around the tunnel, and he decided to check those noises out.
Except he never returned.

Instead, townspeople found his body at the entrance to the tunnel.
The man had been hit by a train, so the story goes, from atop the tunnel and he had fallen right into the ground, killing him.

Many townspeople swear that man’s spirit haunts the tunnel to this day.

A group of teenagers stumbled upon an old, homeless man. He told them of the man who had died in the tunnel so many years ago.
If you walk in the tunnel and listen closely, he told them, you can still hear the train whistle that hit that unfortunate man so many years ago.

He warned them to leave and to never return, for the place was enveloped in evil.
That same homeless man who sought shelter in the tunnel turned up dead not too many days later.
