Missouri’s rivers brought many settlers to the area before the United Stated had even declared independence. These small settlements were started by traders who did much of their business with the native Americans who had lived on the banks of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers for centuries. St. Charles (located on the banks of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers) has continued to grow into Missouri’s ninth largest city while still embracing its historical past. This popular tourist attraction is well worth the trip because of the many activities, dining options, and unique places to shop. This riverside city is not only fun but it’s beautiful too. St. Charles is Missouri's third oldest settlement and was established around 1769.
This station, along with the rail system, is no longer in use but is now a large biking and walking trail that spans almost the entire state, known as the Katy Trail.

Historic downtown is very bike friendly. Grab a bite to eat after a long ride at any of the 100 various eateries in the historic district.
The trolley runs 7 days a week from March through December. It makes a continues 30 minute loop which is super convenient for visiting other attractions around town.
The New Town area in St. Charles is very quaint and worth the visit.
You can walk to the casino from the historic main street or hop on the trolley. In addition to gambling you can find a spa, fine dining, live entertainment, and beautiful guest rooms at Ameristar.
