The Missouri State Penitentiary was once the largest prison in America. At its peak the prison held over 5,000 inmates. The Missouri State Penitentiary was also the location of death row in Missouri and over 40 inmates were executed in the gas chamber that is still on-site and available on the overnight ghost tours.
