Turn Back The Pages Of Time At One Of The Oldest Restaurants In Missouri

Modern gives us a taste of today — whether it’s home decor or a delicious meal. But, sometimes, we just can’t beat a sampling of the past. Perhaps we watch one of our favorite classic television shows, visit a historic town, or dig into a hearty, timeless meal. This historic Missouri restaurant serves all of the classics — from fried chicken to pork chops — that promise to leave you full and satisfied. But, you really have to try it for yourself.

Listen for the whispers of history when you dine at J. Huston Tavern in Arrow Rock, which holds the distinction as "the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi."

In fact, Missourians have been frequenting the historic tavern since it first opened in 1834. Before it was an enchanting tavern, however, it was the family home of the Huston family.

Today, that family home is a comfortable, charming restaurant where you can enjoy a hearty meal in one of the three dining rooms. Or, sip a glass of wine or another beverage in the Tap Room, formerly a mercantile store.

Then, browse the menu that's packed with classic dishes, appealing appetizers, and crisp salads. Dig into a refreshing strawberry and spinach salad, a chicken salad, or a wilted spinach salad.

Of course, you'll probably feel your mouth begin to water when you come to the entrees that include the Famous Tavern Fried Chicken, smoked pork chops, and grilled chicken breast.

In the mood for a juicy, cooked-just-how-you-like it steak? Then, order the ribeye, paired with two of your favorite sides — mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or green beans, perhaps?

Sometimes a sandwich just hits the spot. And, you've got plenty of mouthwatering ones from which to choose — from the hot roast beef to the catfish sandwich.
