There are lots of reasons Tishomingo State Park rocks, including rocks! That’s right: towering rock formations are among the 1,530-acre park’s most notable features. And while they’re stunning on their own, the giant stone structures at Tishomingo State Park are even more impressive when you learn that they don’t exist anywhere else in Mississippi.

Rock formations are a rarity in Mississippi. In fact, the only place you can find them is in Tishomingo State Park and the immediately surrounding areas.

Filled with rocky creeks and streams, huge outcroppings, and rock walls, the park’s terrain is very mountain-like – and that’s no coincidence. It's in the foothills of the Appalachians.

The highlight of the park is definitely Bear Creek Canyon and its huge sandstone outcroppings.

According to some, the boulders, towering cliffs, and outcrops that fill the park form some of the most “picturesque and rugged scenery” in all of Mississippi.

With seven trails that range from 0.75 to 3 miles, the park can be easily explored by adventurers of all ages.

Along the way, you can clamor on the huge rocks, which, in some cases, form waterfalls.

You can also do some rock climbing at Tishomingo State Park. A helmet and permit (which is free from the park office) are required.

The park’s perks don’t end with the massive stone structures, though.
