Mississippi’s historic sites come in all shapes and sizes, including in the form of an aquarium. That’s right; the Magnolia State is home to an antiquated aquarium that you’ll want to see for yourself. Manufactured in 1860, it’s well over a century old and is touted as the world’s oldest aquarium.

Prior to being acquired by the Historic Oak Hill Inn, the aquarium is known to have been housed at various locations in Natchez, including Burn Manor and the historic Dr. Charles H. Dubs Townhouse.
The aquarium was made by J. W. Fiske and Company of New York City, which was the leading manufacturer of decorative cast iron and zinc in America during the second half of the 19th century.
