Built in 1757, the historic home is the oldest building in Mississippi. It’s also the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley.

So, it makes sense that the cemetery on the property is touted as the “oldest active family graveyard in America.”

The first burial was in the 1750s, which means the cemetery pre-dates the Revolutionary War.

The tombstones bear proof of the graveyard’s age. The French controlled the area from 1718 – 1763, and because of such, some of the inscriptions are in French.

Over the years, witnesses have reported all sorts of strange sightings.

The ghost of a man, who’s dressed in old-fashioned clothes, is one of the most common. The phantom man is often seen roaming the cemetery. Mysterious lights have also been reported. The source of the light has never been discovered. Why? Because whenever someone tries to investigate, the lights disappear.
Visitors of nearby Krebs Lake have reported some weird things, too.

The cemetery overlooks Krebs Lake, which is a popular swim spot. However, those enjoying the lake’s waters may be in for more than a refreshing dip. According to reports, people swimming in Krebs Lake have seen tombs falling down and bones spilling out.
In addition to the cemetery and historic home, the La Pointe-Krebs grounds boast informative markers, canons, and a museum.
