Many of Mississippi’s landmark restaurants are tucked away in small towns – and that’s exactly the case with White Front Café, which is in Rosedale.

Also known as Joe’s Hot Tamale Place, the unassuming eatery is housed in a small wood-frame house on Rosedale's Main Street.

Since opening its doors decades ago, it's served one item and one item only – tamales.

Tamales are often associated with locations south of the border, rather than the Deep South. However, tamales have been a big part of Mississippi’s culinary scene, particularly the Delta, for decades.

And if you ask anyone in the Delta where to get tamales, they’ll likely mention White Front Café. But it’s not just locals who are privy to the landmark cafe - people have traveled from near and far to get a taste of its legendary tamales.

So, what makes the tamales at White Front Café so good? The unbelievable tastiness can be attributed to the café’s secret recipe, which originated from “a Mexican from Texas who traveled through the Delta back in the 1930s.”

There's also the fact that they're stuffed with all beef - no pork.

Most patrons purchase their tamales by the dozen and take them to-go; however, there's a small dining area for those who'd rather eat on-site.
