The Round Island Lighthouse In Mississippi Is Once Again Open For Tours

The Biloxi Lighthouse has got to be one of the state’s most recognizable sights. However, to the surprise of many, it’s not the only lighthouse in the Magnolia State. That’s right; Mississippi is also home to the Round Island Lighthouse. Oozing just as much history and charm as its Biloxi counterpart, Round Island Lighthouse is definitely worth a visit. And luckily, it just re-opened for tours! Take a look:
After months of being closed due to the pandemic, Round Island Lighthouse is once again open for tours!
Located at the foot of the Pascagoula River Bridge, the historic lighthouse serves as somewhat of a beacon, welcoming visitors and residents to the city.
A magnificent piece of maritime history, the first Round Island Lighthouse was built in 1833. It was eventually destroyed and a replacement was built in 1859.
Throughout its years on Round Island, the lighthouse was damaged by various hurricanes, so in 2010, it was moved to its present location on mainland Pascagoula.
The restoration project involved more than the lighthouse, though. It also included the land around the lighthouse, which has come to be known as Lighthouse Park.
