In order to come to this conclusion, the website analyzed data, such as unemployment rates, median income, education, short commute times, and low crime, as it pertained to the state’s 70 most populated cities. After crunching the numbers, Madison landed the number one spot on the website’s “Best Places to Live in Mississippi” list. This ranking, paired with the fact that Madison’s population has increased by over 30% in the last five years, prompted us to take a closer look at the city. After doing so, we realized Madison is completely worthy of being named the number one city in the state; here’s ten reasons why.
1. Madison residents earn more per household than those of any other city in the state.
In Madison, there are approximately 1,087 crimes committed for every 100,000 residents. The state’s rate is approximately 3,200.
5. Since Madison is located so close to Jackson, residents can enjoy a small town feel while taking advantage of all the amenities that a large metropolitan area has to offer.
And that small town feel doesn’t just happen. According to the city’s website, Madison is a "planned community giving priority to safety, comfort, and a small town atmosphere."

The percent of Madison residents with a Masters Degree is nearly twice as much as that of the nation – a trend that will most likely be continued since Madison is the site of one of Tulane University’s newest campuses as well as in close proximity to other institutions.
