The Fascinating Town In Mississippi That Is Straight Out Of A Fairy Tale

Bound to evoke feelings of enchantment and delight, the term “fairy tale” should only be used to describe places that are truly spectacular – and in the case of Water Valley, it couldn’t be more fitting. Home to less than 4,000 residents, the picturesque town looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. Take a look:

Water Valley is a small town located in the north Mississippi hills, just south of Oxford.

Overflowing with charm, it's without a doubt a "fairy tale" town.

The picturesque Main Street is lined with colorful buildings, which house a variety of locally-owned businesses.

One look at the lively downtown and it's practically impossible to not fall in love with this hidden gem.

Drive around and you'll find plenty of interesting sites, including vibrant murals that adorn several of the buildings in downtown Water Valley.

You'll also be treated to impressive architecture from yesteryear.

There's so much to see and do in this little town, and a great place to start is with a Water Valley landmark - Turnage Drug Store.

In business for over a century, the classic drug store is just the type of place you'd expect to find in a small town.

Overflowing with charm, it features a variety of merchandise, which includes hard-to-find items, like old-fashioned candy sticks.

BTC Old-Fashioned Grocery is another must-visit spot on Main Street.

The store carries a variety of fresh meats, fruits, and vegetables grown by local farmers.

Featured in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, it also includes a lunch counter that's known for serving "the best sandwiches in a 30 mile radius."

Quaint antique shops are scattered throughout Water Valley.

You could easily spend hours scouring the shelves for a hidden treasure.

Boasting an impressive arts scene complete with a couple of galleries, Water Valley provides the perfect opportunity to get in touch with your creative side.

You'll also have the opportunity to learn about the town's railroad history at the Casey Jones Railroad Museum. The free-of-charge museum features an array of railroad items, photographs, and documents.

As if the town wasn’t charming enough, it’s known as the "Watermelon Capital of the World" and hosts its annual Watermelon Carnival every August.

Extend your visit to Water Valley by booking a stay at the Whippoorwill Hotel. The lovely boutique hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of downtown Water Valley, ensuring you don't miss a thing.
