When you live in Mississippi, beautiful sites are never too far away. In fact, they’re a lot closer than you may think. And that’s because in addition to sites, like the Natchez Trace and Tishomingo State Park, that are extremely well known for their scenic beauty, the state is home to just as many not-so-known sites. Keep reading for 10 of Mississippi’s most beautiful sites that you may not even know existed.
Encompassing 60,000 acres, this WMA is located in the Delta National Forest. It wasn’t established until 1955, so most of the original timber is gone - but not all of it. Look around and you’ll find a few cypress trees that are over 1,000 years old! Visit the WMA at 209 Chuck Station Rd., Holly Bluff, MS 39088.
When it comes to the state’s barrier islands, Ship Island may be the most popular but that doesn’t mean this tropical gem should be discounted. Horn Island was a favorite destination and somewhat of a muse to local artist Walter Anderson. The talented painter visited the island countless times and created numerous works based on its beautiful sights. As of today, there is still no bridge or ferry running to the island, which means crowds aren’t the norm and peace and quiet is.

Described as the "fairyland of gardens," Wister Gardens is made up of 14 acres filled with colorful flowers, trees, and shrubbery. The gorgeous gardens can be toured daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wister Gardens is located at 1440 MS-7, Belzoni, MS 39038.

Truly a sight to see, Coastal Ridge Farm includes acres of whimsical sunflowers. Even better, the farm opens to the public seasonally, allowing visitors to come and pick their own sunflowers. Coastal Ridge Farm is located at 27075 Rd 221, Picayune, MS 39466.
Featured in Fodor's Travel Guide and The New York Times Travel Magazine, this historic home is a must visit. It’s open for tours all year, but it’s best to plan a visit in the spring when the azaleas and wisteria are in bloom. Visit the Amzi Love House at 714 3rd Ave., Columbus, MS 39701.

Back in April, the Marine Education Center opened in Ocean Springs. The center is exceptionally stunning – and that’s no coincidence. The $10 million facility was designed to showcase the environment. Though the education center has a lot to offer, it’s the 208’ suspension bridge that’s sure to be a favorite of all ages. Situated on the MSU campus, the Veterans Memorial Rose Garden is open and free to the public to visit. Despite its location on the MSU campus, not many people know the garden even exists, which is a real shame because, with gazebos, arbors, benches, and more than 30 kinds of roses, it’s absolutely enchanting. The garden is located at 30 Verner Hurt Blvd., Starkville, MS 39759.
You never know what you’ll find hiding on the back roads of rural Mississippi. For instance, most residents are completely unaware this monastery is tucked away in Panola County. Rather unique, it’s one of only three monasteries in the U.S. under the spiritual guidance of Thich Nhat Hanh. Visitors are welcome to stop by the monastery for a one-day visit or can take part in a week-long retreat. Magnolia Grove Monastery is located at 123 Towles Rd., Batesville, MS 38606.
