There’s A Little Slice Of Heaven Right Here In Mississippi And You’ll Want To Visit

To get to heaven, you first have to travel to the moon…Moon Lake, that is. Both a body of water and a community, Moon Lake boasts pristine beauty, recreation, great eateries, and cozy lodging. It’s like a little slice of heaven, and you’ll want to visit.

The community of Moon Lake is in Coahoma County. It's located along the shores of a 2,300-acre oxbow lake by the same name.

One of the state’s biggest natural lakes, it boasts tranquil beauty and solitude.

The lovely lake hasn’t gone unnoticed, either. A fisherman’s paradise, it's long been sought out by anglers for its crappie, bass, and catfish.

It’s also a great place to canoe and kayak, thanks to its shallow, pristine waters.

One of the best ways to soak in the lake’s beauty is the Moon Lake Scenic Overlook. Extending out over the lake’s waters, it offers views like no other.

You can also enjoy lake vistas when dining at a couple of Moon Lake's most popular restaurants, like Kathryn's on Moon Lake, which has been open on-and-off since 1939.

Uncle Henry’s is another landmark restaurant on the shores of Moon Lake.

It was built in 1926 as an Elks Club. Then, during prohibition, it served as Moon Lake Club, a speakeasy and casino.

Touted as “one of the South’s most famous prohibition landmarks,” it’s received lots of attention over the years.

Not only was it mentioned by Tennessee Williams in A Streetcar Named Desire, but William Faulkner included it in one of his novels.

In 2021 after a long hiatus, Uncle Henry’s re-opened with a new-and-improved interior and an updated menu.

Picturesque and peaceful, Moon Lake is the type of place you won’t want to leave. Luckily, there are some great VRBO and Airbnb rentals in the area.
