The Mississippi Pecan Festival Offers Old-Fashioned Fun For The Whole Family

If you’re looking for the perfect way to spend a fall day, the Mississippi Pecan Festival won’t disappoint. Held over the course of three days in September, the annual event is quickly approaching. And with vendor booths, tasty food, demonstrations, wagon rides, and more, this is one fest you don’t want to miss. Take a look:

Now heading into its 32nd year, the Mississippi Pecan Festival is always held the last weekend in September. This year, it’ll take place September 27 – 29, 2019.

As charming as it sounds, the much-anticipated event takes place on a farmstead with a shady pecan orchard, just outside of Richton.

One of the South’s fastest growing festivals, it’s come a long way since it first began as an arts and crafts show decades ago.

Though the festival *does* still include lots of arts and crafts thanks to the more than 250 talented artisans that set up booths.

But arts and crafts aren’t all you’ll find at the fest.

Celebrating the "simple way of life" of days long gone, the event includes lots of old-fashioned fun, like wagon rides.

There are also mule pulls, draft horse exhibitions, and other tributes to the past.

Demonstrations are another way history comes to life at the festival. Wood carving, butter churning, basket weaving, and broom making are just a few of the things you can take in at the event.

Kids will surely be entertained thanks to pony rides, a petting zoo, and play area.

Other fest favorites include the Purtiest Rooster Contest and the live entertainment, which comes in the form of bluegrass and gospel music.

And don’t forget about the food. Pecan pies are plentiful…it is a pecan festival, after all.

There are also a variety of food booths on-site, serving classic festival fare and regional favorites.

You can also pick up some delicious eats at the Fulmer’s General Store, which is located on the same property as the fest.

Open year-round, the general store is modeled after general stores of yesteryear, carrying a variety of merchandise. In addition to all-natural and Amish goods, the store sells farming supplies and unique gifts.
