Housing a wealth of information about the Magnolia State, the Museum of Mississippi History is a must-visit for newcomers, visitors, and longtime residents alike. Offering a comprehensive history lesson like no other, the museum explores over 15,000 years of state history! Take a look:

You’ll find the Museum of Mississippi History in downtown Jackson.

One of the state’s newest museums, it celebrated its opening in December 2017, in honor of the state’s bicentennial.

The 28,000-square-foot museum explores the entire sweep of Mississippi’s history, all the way up to present-day.

All in all, there are over 1,200 innovative, intricately detailed exhibits and hundreds of artifacts.

Stepping into the museum is like stepping back in time to experience Mississippi of yesteryear firsthand.

As you meander through the museum, you’ll learn about the lives of Mississippi and its residents throughout the centuries.

Discover what life was like for the Choctaws, find out what inspired Eudora Welty’s writings, and much, much more.

You'll also see lots of familiar sites, such as the Natchez Trace, represented in the exhibits.

It’s not just the incredible variety of exhibits that’ll keep you entertained while at the museum, though. The grounds also include a café as well as a store stocked with souvenirs, books, and more.

Admission is charged during the week; however, the museum can be visited for FREE on Sundays.
