Chautauqua Park's Tree Top Trail Is One Of The Most Unique In Mississippi

In Mississippi, great hiking spots are practically as plentiful as blue plate specials. And with so many incredible trails, it’s easy to overlook a few. But one you definitely don’t want to miss is the state’s only treetop trail. Not only unique, the trail also features magnificent scenery and loads of history. Take a look:

In the small town of Crystal Springs, you’ll find just under 6,000 residents and Chautauqua Park.

With rolling hills, flowing springs, and a serene 35-acre lake, the 74-acre park is a true hidden gem.

But of all the park’s features, the Tree Top Trail has got to be one of the best.

Featuring 1,500’ of elevated boardwalk, the unique hike provides a high-rise view of the surrounding forest and its inhabitants.

The elevated vantage point also affords close-up views of the many streams that meander through the park.

Several benches provide the perfect place to rest and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Rated as "easy," the loop trail is suitable for hikers of all ages and skill levels.

After tackling the Tree Top Trail, consider checking out the park’s other trail – The Trail of Tranquility, which begins at this archway.

…and then continues through the woods, traversing a small swinging bridge and a pristine stream on the way.

Dating back decades, Chautauqua Park is loaded with history, which you’ll find evidence of throughout the park. Keep your eyes peeled for informative markers as well as other interesting remnants from the past, like this diesel-powered pump that was built in 1897.

Get to Chautauqua Park by taking exit 72 on I-55. Then, drive east to Highway 51 and turn right into the park’s entrance, which is about one mile ahead. The park is located at 114 Chatauqua Dr., Crystal Springs, MS 39059.
