Lanesboro has a population of less than 1,000 people, so it's definitely a tiny town. Even so, this community in southeastern Minnesota has a lot going on. It's nestled right into the landscape of Minnesota's gorgeous Bluff Country, so the town is filled with natural beauty. When you venture downtown, you'll find a set of lovely, walkable streets lined with locally-owned shops and restaurants. There's even a theater if you'd like to catch a show. This artsy community offers plenty to do, and that's why it has one of the best downtowns in Minnesota.
2. Walker

Known for its proximity to the stunning Leech Lake, Walker is a popular destination for those looking for fishing, boating, or waterfront relaxation. Even beyond the lake, you'll find plenty to do in downtown Walker. The many gift stores that line the streets offer up plenty of places to pick up souvenirs. Dotted among the stores, there are tasty restaurants, serving up pizza, BBQ, and plenty more. This bustling little town is a lovely place to visit!

Grand Marais is one of the most popular towns along the North Shore with good reason. It's filled with scenic beauty, thanks to its location right on the edge of Lake Superior. Not only is it a stunning place, it's also got a small downtown area that is full of charm. It's so much fun to stroll among the buildings and take in the view! One must-stop location if you're craving sweets is the aptly-named World's Best Donuts . If you happen to be visiting during the summer, make sure to take part in the annual Fisherman's Picnic.

As the gateway to the Boundary Waters, many people pass through every year, particularly during the summertime. However, this charming little town is much more than a pass-through. It's home to a thriving downtown that is bustling with people. There are plenty of places to stop and grab a bite to eat, and you'll also find lots of local stores to shop for gifts or necessities for your journey to the Boundary Waters.
5. Lindstrom

Lindstrom is perhaps best known for its adorable Swedish coffee pot water tower. It's an homage to the city's first settlers and says "Welcome to Lindstrom" in Swedish. Known as "America's Little Sweden," Lindstrom has a strong Swedish heritage that shows in many of its attractions, including several local restaurants. The town has just under 5,000 people, so it's definitely not the largest town in Minnesota. Even so, the lovely downtown area offers a lot to see and do.
6. New Ulm

Another town with a famous heritage, New Ulm is well-known for its German roots. There are plenty of places you can experience a taste of this. Craving a taste of German food? A meal at the 75-year old Veigel's Kaiserhoff will really hit the spot. Walk into Domeier's German Store and you'll feel like you were transported to Europe. There are so many great attractions here that you could easily spend a few days in New Ulm.
7. Red Wing

Red Wing is home to about 16,000 people, so this town on the banks of the Mississippi River is not the smallest on this list. However, it's certainly one of the most charming towns in Minnesota. The downtown area is filled with historic buildings, some of which have been standing for over a century. Visit at any time of year and you'll have a fun time exploring the town's many shops and restaurants. Before you leave, don't forget to hike up on a tall bluff so you can see the town from above!
