The Scenic Drive To Whitewater State Park In Minnesota Is Almost As Beautiful As The Destination Itself
Most everybody loves a scenic Minnesota drive, right? Well, if you’re looking for a stunning road trip with a gorgeous destination, hit the road and head for Whitewater State Park. No matter which direction you come from, the approach is beautiful.
Whitewater State Park, near Altura, is tucked deep in the heart of Minnesota’s bluff country.
So, in order to reach the park, you must drive several miles through the hardwood-forested valleys and winding bluff roads of the state’s driftless area.
By the time you reach the park’s entrance, you’re greeted with high, exposed bluffs crowned by the same hardwood forests that line the bottoms of the Whitewater River valley.
The park’s rugged beauty makes it a perfect destination for hikers. Nature lovers will find trails for all abilities and skill levels, from the paved and accessible trails along the river bottom, near the visitor center and campground, to the craggy bluff top paths that require the occasional scramble.
For seasonal updates, more information about the park, or maps, visit Whitewater State Park’s website. If you venture to Whitewater during springtime, be sure to visit nearby Carley State Park, as well. Carley explodes with bluebells and other wildflowers as the weather becomes more temperate.
