If there is one thing Minnesota is known for, it’s certainly not its elevation. Our state is mostly flat, with our highest point just 2,301 feet above sea level. The upside of this is that we don’t have to brave mountain passes or roads with sheer drops. But there is one road in Minnesota that can be a nail-biting experience – especially if your driver is afraid of heights. Let’s take a look at what road it is, why it’s scary, and what sights you can see if you choose to brave the drive.

Skyline Parkway in Duluth is a scenic byway that runs east-west across the city for 25 miles.

But it doesn't just pass through downtown Duluth like you might expect. Skyline Parkway actually twists along the ridge of a high hill overlooking the city.

See those rocks at the edge of the road? Beyond that, the hill drops steeply.

The sections with the steepest drops have observation areas where drivers can pull off the road to enjoy the view.
