The Oberg Mountain Loop is a 2.6-mile loop trail in northern Minnesota. It is part of the much larger Lake Superior Hiking Trail. The trailhead is accessible from a parking lot on Forest Road 336, just north of Tofte.
This trail through the woods is truly beautiful. It crosses a mixed forest that is crawling with wildlife. You'll have the chance to see birds, rodents, and more.
Because the trail does climb the 925-foot-tall Oberg Mountain, there are some steep areas. Be sure to wear the right shoes and take caution as you step. It is unpaved, and there may be ruts or debris on the path.
As you reach the top, northern Minnesota's spectacular landscape will come into view before you. You'll emerge from the trees to find that you are now above them.
The fenced observation area will allow you to soak in the view. In the distance, you'll see rolling hills covered in a blanket of trees. It seems to stretch endlessly.
This oval-shaped lake is completely surrounded by trees. There are no resorts or campsites along its edges, making it a true wilderness lake. Many like to fish there. But you can see its amazing beauty best from above.
If you ever get the chance, make a point to hike the Oberg Mountain Loop. This trail offers some of the best views in northern Minnesota. It's especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are at peak color!
