It’s no secret that Minnesota isn’t exactly known for impressive peaks, soaring summits, or even rolling hills. Sure, there are a few cliffs overlooking Lake Superior and bluffs lining the Mississippi River. These are awe-inspiring in their beauty, but they’re not quite the Rocky Mountains. Minnesota may never reach those heights, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have mountains of our own. Most people don’t realize that Minnesota is home to its very own mountain range. Take a look:

Along Minnesota’s North Shore, the Sawtooth Mountains stretch 30 miles from Tofte to Grand Marais. The mountains are named for their distinct sawlike appearance.
