Trent Jonas came to Minnesota to attend college - and never left. He's a Twin Cities-based writer with a BA in English and a MFA in creative writing, a Minnesota Master Naturalist, and the proud father of two adult children. With more than a decade of freelance writing experience under his belt, Trent is often out exploring his favorite topics: Minnesota's woods, lakes, and trails. Rhubarb pie is his weakness, so discovering new diners is also a passion.
For more than four decades, the Twin Cities has played host to one of the largest Hmong celebrations in the country – which makes sense, because more Hmong people make their home in the Land of 10,000 Lakes than anywhere else in United States. And every year, on the weekend after Thanksgiving, folks gather in St. Paul to celebrate the Hmong New Year in Minnesota. This year, the dates for the Minnesota Hmong New Year celebration fall on November 25 and 26 for the 2023-2024.
The annual event is sponsored by the United Hmong Family, Inc., a cultural organization based in St. Paul. Learn more about celebrating the Hmong New Year in Minnesota on the organization’s website. You can purchase digital tickets in advance through Ticketmaster. The 2023 price is $12.45 per ticket; children 42 inches tall or shorter can attend for free. Have you been to this amazing cultural celebration in St. Paul? If so, share your Minnesota Hmong New Year experiences with us in the comments.
