If you’ve spent any time in Minnesota, you know that the Land of 10,000 Lakes is home to more than a few beautiful towns. In the southeast alone, Stillwater, Red Wing, and Winona stand out thanks to their amazing riverfront scenery. In other regions, towns like Lanesboro or Walker or Pipestone or Bemidji have a beauty all their own. Each of these towns – and many others – are well worth visiting. But earlier this year, House Beautiful named one other town as the most beautiful small town in Minnesota.
Grand Marais is a beautiful town along Highway 61 on Minnesota's North Shore. It's about 110 miles north of Duluth.
Thanks to its location right on Lake Superior, it's not hard to see why it's been named Minnesota's most beautiful small town. Many love coming here to watch the sun rise over the lake. Whether you watch it from shore or from a boat, it's bound to be a beautiful sight.
One trail leads to one of the most popular spots in Grand Marais: Artist's Point. Here, visitors can take in the beautiful sight of waves washing over spectacular rock formations. In the distance, you can see a beautiful lighthouse.
You can even walk out to the lighthouse for even more wonderful views of the harbor. It's a great way to see sailboats gliding across the water or fishing boats heading out for the day.
There are many other great places to visit in Grand Marais, such as the well-known Beaver House. This eye-catching bait shop has been around for decades!
Other great spots include restaurants, a bookstore, and more. Natural beauty and small-town charm combine in Grand Marais to make Minnesota's most beautiful small town.
