At the end of 2014, Forbes ranked Minnesota the 6th most charitable state, and Charity Navigator ranked Minneapolis/St. Paul the 4th most giving metropolitan market. But it’s really some of MN’s smaller counties where charity has shown to be a true priority. These 8 counties give a higher percentage of their income to charity than any others in MN,and many in the rest of the nation as well.

Kittson County gives 3.45% of their adjusted gross income to charity with a median contribution of $4,720.

3.51% of Big Stone County's income goes straight to charity, and that led to an immense total of $2 million in 2012.

With a median donation of $2,842 per year, Wadena County residents give 3.62% of their income to charitable organizations.

Otter Tail County gives 3.66% of their income to charity, with a median donation of $3,324.

A high 3.82% of the income in Rock County goes to charity, and in 2012 this led to a total contribution of $4,790,000.

4.30% of the population's income in this county goes to charity. In 2012, an impressive $31,867,000 was donated.

In 2012, the citizens of this southwestern county donated a total of $4,455,000, which is 4.70% of their income.

5.51% of the adjusted gross income in Stevens County goes to charitable donations. The median annual contribution is a whopping $3,738.
