Despite being relatively small – the population is around 11,000 – Alexandria has a lot going on. From nature activities to historic mystery, this enchanting town is unlike any other.
Alexandria, Minnesota, was first settled in 1858. It grew into a charming town with many amenities.
One of the most striking things is the busy downtown area. It is filled with cute shops and restaurants that will give you a taste of what this small town is all about.
Frequent events in the downtown area bring the community together. You never know what fun you might run into.
Alexandria's big claim to fame is its Runestone Museum, which is full of historic buildings and other artifacts.
The most famous part of the museum's collection is the mysterious Kensington Runestone said to be left by Scandinavian explorers in the 1300s.

But Alexandria's biggest claim to fame may be its scenic beauty. It is nestled among many northern Minnesota lakes. There are more than 350 in the area!
Hike along the Central Lakes Trail to see some of the town's most stunning beauty. Though the trail is 55 miles long, it only takes a mile or two to see the beauty.
Alexandria is a prime spot for fishing, canoeing, and lakeside lounging. Several of the nearby lakes have public parks and beaches.
The nearby Lake Carlos State Park offers views of marshes, bogs, and lakes. Its 14 miles of hiking trails and many campsites offer plenty of opportunity to see the sights.
