We in Minnesota are lucky. Beautiful nature is all around us! Not only do we have endless beauty in our more than 10,000 lakes. But we also have dozens of state parks, forests, ponds, and rivers that are brimming with the breathtaking beauty of nature. The abundance of these natural areas in Minnesota is well-known to locals and travelers alike. But there is another form of nature present in Minnesota that many people don’t know about it: mountains. They may not be as high as the Rockies, but the Sawtooth Mountains in northern Minnesota are well worth seeing. In particular, a hike up Carlton Peak may be just the thing you need to get outdoors and enjoy Minnesota’s beauty. Read on below to learn all that you need to know about hiking to the summit:
Carlton Peak is a low mountain in the Sawtooth Mountain Range of northern Minnesota. It rises 924 feet above Lake Superior, making it one of the most standout peaks in the area.
The trail up the mountain is easily accessible from Highway 61. Park at Temperance River State Park and take the Superior Hiking Trail to the peak. You can also park at the Britton Peak trailhead off of Cook County Road 2.
No matter which way you get to the top of Carlton Peak, you're in for a gorgeous hike with amazing views of the surrounding area. The trail is about 3 miles in length and full of beauty in every direction.
In the distance, the endless blue waters of Lake Superior will be stretched before you. This beautiful hike is one of the easiest ways to see the lake from above!
