Who doesn’t love butterflies? The sight of a single one of these beautiful creatures is special. But thousands upon thousands? It’s truly magical. Luckily, Minnesotans have the chance to experience the magic every year at one of the Minnesota State Fair’s most popular attractions. At a busy crossroads, tucked among endless rows of food stands – and even more endless crowds – is the Butterfly House. Consider this your reminder to make time in this year’s visit for the fair’s most magical oasis.
The Butterfly House at the Minnesota State Fair is located at the northwest corner of Dan Patch Avenue and Underwood Street.
It costs $3 to enter the butterfly house, but the cost is totally worth it. Instead of focusing on food or farm animals or fair exhibits, it's a chance to quietly relax.
Upon entering, you'll be given a sugar-coated Q-tip to help attract butterflies to you. Thousands of butterflies flutter around the house looking for food.
There are dozens of different varieties, including many large, tropical species. If you wait long enough, you'll likely attract more than a few different types. Whether you love blue morphos or painted ladies, you'll have the chance to see some incredible species.
Even without offering a treat, the butterflies often land right on visitors. It's truly delightful, especially when you're chosen by a huge, beautiful butterfly like this one.
